How can it be that the same headlines repeat for decades? Why are we mourning the same losses as we were almost 4 decades ago? The Amazon never stopped burning. How could the Amazon never stop burning if international legislation was put in place and international agreements were made and funds were deployed.. What are we doing wrong?
My friends, my husband and my children know this about me: You don't need to buy me flowers, or chocolates, or anything really.. I LOVE flowers, but it makes me sad to see them slowly decay and throw them away in the end.. Also, I'm too aware of the environmental footprint of the flower industry -it’s a biggy-
Does sustainable mean not for profit? A sustainable business has an objective much larger than profit alone. In it's most deliberate, it would aim to make life better for everyone, everywhere.
Such a business would go to great lengths to educate the consumer on ways to reduce their impact on the world, how to make the products last and how to dispose of them. It would rely less on discounting products' prices -as value doesn't reduce in time when a product is of great quality-, and pay larger amounts of money to guarantee the products it offers have a reduced environmental or social impact. All of this needs to happen while it's prices remain competitive, so profit is definitely harder to achieve, but definitely necessary to sustain the business it self..
We wish for this Christmas and the coming year to be as joyful as it can for all of us. May it bring more peace and harmony into our lives and that of those around us. That which is important in life knows how to hold your hand or make you feel warm without trying.
We believe we can change the world with our choices, we can do this by truly owning our choices and the impact they have on the world, both the positive and negative ones. No need to feel guilty, just mindful. More than ever, sustainable fashion is a viable alternative and we'd love to explore it and share it with the world.
Our two cents on sustainability and how we, as individuals can take steps to help change the world: We could start by doing things slower. Take time to consider our choices, as they have a multiplying effect that shapes the way things are done. Whether it is fashion related, a holiday, or the next pot of yogurt; we need to take time to understand what we consume, take time to make the right choices..
With each of our purchases we can choose to support enterprises that try to create a world were life is good, for everyone
We are Mia Strada London, the online alter ego of Mia Strada, a local boutique in Worcester Park, Surrey, trying to challenge the idea that fashion can't be both, down to earth affordable AND sustainable. This is the space we'll use to shout about that which excites and ignites us, guides our choices in business and in life and the wonderful findings we come across in our search for sustainability..
