Our Earth, our Home, our Responsibly
We're celebrating World Environment Day today and every day 🌱🌏🌱
World Environment Day is held every year on the 5th of June and this year the focus is on plastic pollution and the way that it permeates every corner of our beautiful planet. I believe this is a great opportunity to get all of us together and feel it is safe to start kind conversations about the challenges we all face curving our own plastic waste and how we can help drive systemic change. Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and held annually since 1973, this year it falls two months before countries meet to continue negotiating a global treaty to end plastic pollution.
We are joining the #BeatPlasticPollution movement by sharing tips on how to easily reduce the amount of plastic we generate at home and how to make your own home made, healthy sweet treats to help children ditch the candy wrappers! We will also have a little treat in store for those families coming in with children that are happy to share your family's exciting plastic waste reduction practices 💕
We have created our own little event to add to the efforts of over 2100 events happening all around the world! We called it "Sharing Plastic Ditching Stories" and I can't wait to see how many of you pop in store to share their amazing plastic curving adventures or tag us on their socials (@Mia.Strada.London our little turquoise logo should appear)
Check out the 2025 World Environment Day map! It is really encouraging when you see that you aren't doing this alone, millions of people taking small actions amount to huge movement in the right direction.
Environmental conservation is all encompassing, because it ultimately seeks to achieve balance in all aspects of our interaction with our natural environment, and now more than ever it is becoming obvious that all ecosystems are interconnected and that actions in one place can have severe effect on an entirely different place. This is especially so when waste that is difficult to brake down ends up washed away into sea, where it is then carried with the current to the furthest corners of Earth.
It is our collective responsibility to take care of our planet because it is our home and it is home to every single living organism on it. We owe it to ourselves and the beautiful living creatures on this planet, to find a way to coexist in harmony and I believe our super power lies in making good choices, because every action we take has a butterfly effect.
Thoughtful actions create powerful waves and mindful choices create positive change, it is as easy as it is inevitable.
If you’re feeling inspired, I’d love to read about your journey reducing your plastic waste in the comments or hear it when you next visit us in store (remember, there's a little treat for those that have a little one that wants to come and talk about it!) and please do tag us if you share it elsewhere. These small conversations matter more than we think.
